Photography runs deep in Karl Monaghan’s bloodline. His fascination for photography stems from his boyhood in London with his father, an amateur black-and-white photographer. Trips to the local camera shop at the Royal Standard in Blackheath and time spent watching his father develop film in the family bathroom strengthened his interest in photography.

Throughout his youth and young adulthood, Karl always kept a camera close at hand, to document his life as he went along. From London street scenes of the 70’s to emigrating to Australia with his young family and discovering the wild and diverse landscapes on offer. Through his then-career as a remote area health nurse, Karl worked in some of Australia’s most magnificent landscapes, finding use for his photography in healthcare presentations on remote work and student nurse training. 

By the early 00’s, Karl was shooting both medium format film and 35mm transparencies while embracing the emerging digital technologies in image making. Successful in his photographic endeavors, Karl pursued photography full-time, opening his first gallery in Carnarvon, Western Australia with a broader scope to include wide format printing. 

Upon moving his gallery to Geraldton, in WA’s Midwest region, Monaghan expanded his offerings to deliver the highest quality fine art printing, picture framing and extended photographic services. A natural conclusion for a man who had spent a lifetime with a camera in his hand. 

Karl is a natural teacher with a passion for producing outstanding and captivating images, backed by a lifetime of experience.
